The Krawl: Frequently Asked Questions

Contents

What is The Krawl?

The Krawl is an old-school table-top simulator, but solo. It is like having endless modules and campaigns fully integrated into one world.

The Krawl was inspired by many sessions of old-school D&D Basic in the 80's. It replicates old-school pen and paper RPGs and brings back the same freedom and wonder, but for solo play. It is easy to play, but difficult to master. Role 3D dice, see images of every NPC, Monster and Magic Item and more.

Core Features: The DM narrates and you speak back - anything you want to do, the DM will respond. The world is permanent and npcs never forget.

What if I don't like old-school table top games?

How big is the world?

The world of The Krawl is so big no player could ever explore it all in a lifetime. It spans multiple alternate worlds and planes of existence.

The Krawl is a persistent realm, every decision you make shapes what comes next. Choose to investigate the mysterious tower on the horizon, and the DM crafts its history, inhabitants, and secrets. Decide to sail across unknown seas, and new continents emerge complete with their own cultures, conflicts, and treasures. Once discovered, these locations are a permanent part of the world you have uncovered. Be the first to discover new monster races, magic spells and magic items. Other players may discover them too, but you will be credited with first discovery in the offical Krawl Monster Manual, Arcana Manual and Reliquaries Manuals permanently.

Exploration Types

  • Classic dungeon crawling with traps, monsters, and treasure
  • Overland travel and wilderness exploration
  • Urban adventures in cities and towns
  • Political intrigue and social challenges
  • Planar travel to otherworldly realms
  • Naval adventures and ocean exploration

Scope & Scale

  • Personal quests and character development
  • Local adventures affecting villages and regions
  • Kingdom-spanning political campaigns
  • World-threatening cosmic events
  • Interdimensional crises and divine conflicts
  • Undiscovered spells, relics, and monsters

Is The Krawl replayable?

To be replayable means there must be an end, and in The Krawl there is no end. In fact if your character dies, your new character will arrive into the same world that has been shaped by your previous decisions.

Every session creates a unique experience because of you, all your past decisions and actions and your current choices meld. A chaotic Orc Fighter will encounter very different adventures than a lawful Elf Cleric, even when exploring similar locations. Your character's race, class, alignment, and personal choices fundamentally shape how the world reacts to you and what opportunities arise.

Character Variety

  • Four distinct races with unique traits and social implications
  • Four classes with vastly different gameplay approaches
  • Three alignments that affect world interactions
  • Unlimited ability score progression for unique builds
  • Personal relationships with NPCs and factions

World Reactivity

  • The DM adapts to your character's personality and choices
  • Different approaches unlock different story branches
  • Reputation and relationships carry consequences
  • Changes you make to the world persist even after death
